BRIGHTON — A cap on the number of inmates local cities can house at the Adams County Detention Center was approved Monday by county commissioners.
The cap — and other measures aimed at reducing crowding at the facility — will be reviewed in July.
The commissioners said a study showing more than half of the jail’s inmates are low-risk offenders and a recommendation from Sheriff Doug Darr led them to impose a soft cap of 30 municipal inmates.
The commissioners will charge cities $45 per day for each inmate that exceeds the cap established for that municipality effective Jan. 1.
