FORT CARSON, Colo.—Army Maj. Gen. David Perkins formally transferred command of Fort Carson and the 4th Infantry Division to Maj. Gen. Joseph Anderson on Wedensday.

Perkins is moving to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where he will be commander of the Combined Arms Center. He’ll oversee schools and training centers including air defense, armor, aviation, infantry and intelligence.

Perkins also has been nominated for promotion to lieutenant general.

He and the 4th Infantry Division headquarters staff spent most of the past 12 months in Iraq, overseeing U.S. forces in the northern part of that country.

Anderson’s most recent assignment was director of operations for readiness and mobilization for the Army deputy chief of staff.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper attended the change-of-command ceremony at the post outside Colorado Springs.
