DENVER—Denver officials are asking the City Council for an extra $200,000 for police overtime through the end of the year because of the Occupy Denver protest.
Department of Safety spokeswoman Daelene Mix said Wednesday the request might not cover all the overtime from the protests, but only the amount that isn’t in the budget.
She says officials are still calculating the amount of overtime police have incurred so far related to the protest.
Denver officials said last month that five city departments accumulated $365,000 in overtime over five days of the protest. Mix now says that total included both overtime and regular time.
The $200,000 request is part of $7 million that safety officials want for a variety of expenses. The Denver Post reported the total on its website Wednesday.
