Democrat Irene C. Griego — an experienced teacher, principal and school administrator — will fill the vacancy on the University of Colorado’s Board of Regents created by Monisha Merchant’s resignation.
Merchant, also a Democrat, took a job with Sen. Michael Bennet’s office. Gov. John Hickenlooper selected Griego to replace Merchant.
Griego is the director for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the interim community superintendent for Jefferson County Public Schools.
She has 38 years of experience as a teacher, school principal, community superintendent and university instructor.
