The attorney for accused child rapist Bret Lee Thompson asked a Denver District Court judge for more time for his client to undergo evaluation before entering a plea.
Thompson, 27, is accused of abducting an 8-year-old girl playing in an alley in June, sexually assaulting her and dropping her off at a gas station 90 minutes later.
Judge Christina Habas ordered that Thompson undergo AIDS testing and gave him until March 8 to enter a plea.
Though Thompson’s attorney, Fernando Freyre didn’t mention insanity in court, public defenders typically seek advice from forensic psychiatrists before enter pleas of not guilty by reason of insanity.
“We’re still trying to have some evaluations done to see what kind of plea we’ll enter,” Freyre said.
Thompson’s foster mother, who told 9News he had been abused as a child, also faces a felony charge for allegedly helping him flee authorities by giving him money and a vehicle.
The 72-year-old Sylvia Luckett’s bond was reduced to $10,000 Wednesday, and she remains in custody.
