Arizona’s Southwest Windpower, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of wind-powered turbines, is opening a branch office in Broomfield’s Interlocken business park. The new facility will focus on the development of a wind testing site and commercial sales.

The new office marks the company’s shift toward renewable energy applications for commercial and industrial markets. The 24-year-old company has traditionally focused on small business and residential uses. The Broomfield office will steer product development toward power generation for villages and multiple-unit projects.

The company expects to be fully staffed by the end of December. In an announcement released today, the company said Broomfield’s proximity to the National Renewable Energy Lab’s Wind Technology Center as well as assistance from Broomfield’s city and county governments factored into the new office location.
