DENVER—Authorities say a man imprisoned for killing an 11-year-old boy and throwing him in a trash bin has been killed under “suspicious circumstances” at Sterling Correctional Facility.

Denver Coroner’s Office says Lyle Brent White died Thursday and an autopsy will performed on him Saturday.

The Denver Post reports ( ) the 40-year-old man was serving a life sentence for the 2000 slaying of Centennial Elementary School fifth-grader Antonio Davalos.

The boy was strangled in his grandmother’s Littleton house, put in a duffel bag and thrown in a Jefferson County strip-mall trash bin.

Corrections spokeswoman Katherine Sanguinetti says an inmate at Sterling has been placed in segregation. An investigation by the Inspector General’s Office is under way.
