TAMPA, Fla. — Republican National Convention planners are playing down concerns about protests and bad weather at next summer’s event in Tampa. Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus on Tuesday promised a “smooth, state-of-the-art, exciting” 2012 convention at the St. Pete Times Forum.
Hundreds of media representatives were given a glimpse of plans for the Aug. 27-30 event, which will take place during Atlantic hurricane season and when daytime high temperatures hover in the 90s. As many as 10,000 protesters could show up.
