STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—The Routt County Board of Commissioners is considering new local regulations for the oil and gas industry.

A meeting Tuesday will discuss concerns that a drilling technique known as fracking could compromise groundwater quality. There also are concerns that diesel motors used at oil wells could create air pollution.

According to Steamboat Today ( ), county officials are reviewing as many as 19 possible additions to local regulations.

Oil companies say they have no intention of hurting the landscape.
