State ratings of 181 school districts, and performance plan recommendations for schools in Colorado were released today to the state board of education.
The percentage of schools on performance plans increased from 2010, while the percentage of schools on turnaround plans decreased.
The number of districts in the top two ranks of accredited or accredited with distinction, increased by one school district to 112, though the percentage is broken differently to include more districts under accredited with distinction.
Cherry Creek, Douglas, Jefferson, St. Vrain and Boulder school districts all fell under the accredited category.
The rankings are based on multiple measures including academic achievement on statewide tests, growth in those scores, a look at growth gaps and a look at post-secondary readiness for graduating or exiting students.
Denver Public Schools is one of 17 districts that received the rating of accredited with priority improvement plan — the second lowest category.
While DPS gets a “does not meet” for academic achievement, the school has good marks for academic growth.
According to previously released DPS numbers, the district saw growth this year at a faster rate than the state average. The growth pace was also faster than most other school districts of similar size and demographics.
Today’s reports also shows seven districts in the state, with the lowest ranking of accredited with turnaround plan, include Sheridan, Adams 14, and Westminster.
All districts annually receive a district performance framework report that determines their accreditation rating, while schools annually receive a school performance framework report that determines their school plan types.
Districts had time before the results were made public to make appeals to the state.
