WHEAT RIDGE, Colo.—The Jefferson County coroner says the driver of an SUV that crashed, killing him and a passenger, was drunk.

The crash killed the driver, 18-year-old Tyler Lovell of Golden, and 17-year-old Rain Walsh of Lakewood. Two passengers survived the accident.

The coroner said Tuesday that Lovell’s blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit.

Authorities say speed was a major factor in the accident, which occurred Nov. 7 when their speeding sport utility vehicle went airborne for 40 feet before slamming into a tree.
