Denver’s deep freeze will thaw out Wednesday when temperatures climb to a perfectly seasonable and sunny 44 degrees, the National Weather Service said this afternoon.
Wednesday night temperatures are expected to fall to about 16, 2 degrees colder than the average low temperature for Dec. 7.
That should be welcome weather, however, compared to recent days. The high at Denver International Airport today was just 30 degrees at about 3 p.m., and the overnight low as minus-5. Monday, the high temperature was 9 degrees on the tail end of the third snowstorm to sweep through the metro region in the previous five days.
So far in December, Denver has been 18 degrees colder than the 30-year average, according to weather records.
Other parts of the state were much colder overnight, including minus-30 at Antero Reservoir in Fairplay, minus-20 in Bailey and minus-13 in Erie, according to weather data.
Another cold front on Thursday brings a 10 percent chance of snow showers and freezing drizzle to Denver, but the afternoon should be partly sunny with a high near 31, forecasters said this afternoon.
Temperatures should return to the upper 30s and low 40s in the metro area this weekend, they said.
