After an unexpectedly warm and sunny afternoon, forecasters say tonight will bring the chill that missed the region earlier in the day.

The National Weather Service in Boulder said temperatures in the Denver metro region this evening will fall into the single digits. Temperatures had fallen to the lower 20s by dusk.

Warm, sunny weather is expected to remain in the metro region until at least the middle of next week, forecasters said.

The high at Denver International Airport this afternoon was 35 degrees, while other parts of the Front Range, including Castle Rock, reported up to 50 degrees this afternoon.

A Canadian cold front had been expected to keep temperatures below freezing in Denver under partly cloudy skies, including a 10 percent chance of snow showers or freezing drizzle.

Forecasters had predicted as much as 2 inches in the mountains to about a half inch along the Nebraska and Kansas state lines.

Most areas, however, received no precipitation and a few received trace amounts, according to online weather data.

Sunny skies are expected in the metro region Friday, with a high near 39 in Denver, and an overnight low of 19 degrees.

The weekend is even nicer, with a forecast high of 47 degrees in Denver on Saturday and 51 on Sunday.

Precipitation doesn’t return to the metro region forecast until next Wednesday, with a slight chance of snow.
