A woman was taken into custody last night as a suspect in a hit-and-run case involving a Commerce City police car.

About 6:30 p.m. Sunday a canine officer’s SUV was hit by another vehicle in the intersection of East 96th Avenue and Highway 2, according to a Commerce City Police Department media release.

The vehicle, described as a dark-colored Ford Excursion, a 1999 or 2000 model, fled the collision.

About 30 minutes later police found the suspect vehicle, which had heavy front-end damage, in Denver near I-70 and I-270, police said.

The driver, an unidentified woman, was taken into custody. The initial crash is being investigated by the Colorado State Patrol.

Police did not report any injuries in the crash.
