DENVER—Denver’s new police chief is promising to build a world-class police department with stronger collaboration with the public.
Robert White was sworn into office Monday. The former Louisville, Ky. police chief was picked by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock to replace chief Gerry Whitman.
White said he was honored to join Denver’s department and planned to introduce himself to the city’s more than 1,400 officers.
White is Denver’s 69th police chief and only the second outsider chosen to lead the department. He’s also the city’s first black police chief.
He is taking over following a series of excessive force allegations.
