Where and how the city of Boulder should allow housing for the chronically homeless will be the focus of a City Council study session tonight.
The meeting will serve as a preliminary dialogue among the nine elected leaders about the “Housing First” model, which operates on the theory that providing housing is a major step toward combating chronic homelessness.
A recent proposal from Boulder Housing Partners to centralize the concept by constructing a 31-unit housing complex for the chronically homeless has riled residents who live near the proposed site at 1175 Lee Hill Drive.
About 500 people signed a petition against the development, and many residents have asked the City Council to step in and scuttle the project. They are planning a show of solidarity at tonight’s meeting.
