MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—A Massachusetts man has been found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2009 shooting death of a Wesleyan University student in Connecticut.
A three-judge panel issued the verdict Friday day in the case against 32-year-old Stephen Morgan of Marblehead, Mass.. Morgan will be committed to Connecticut’s maximum-security psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane.
The trial portrayed him as anti-Semitic and mentally ill as he stalked and harassed 21-year-old Johanna Justin-Jinich (yoh-HAH’-nah JUHS’-tihn JIHN’-ihk).
Morgan was charged with murder and other crimes in her May 2009 death. The college junior from Timnath, Colo., was shot seven times while working at a bookstore cafe near the liberal arts school in Middletown.
A psychologist testified that Morgan suffered from paranoid schizophrenia.
