Denver police do not believe that an attempted burglary at the home of William Ahrold, who was found dead in his van on Saturday after a suspected murder-suicide, was in any way connected to the deaths.

On Saturday, Ahrold, 62, and his 9-year-old son Jackson Ahrold, were found dead in a van parked along the Colorado River in Grand County. The two had been missing since Dec. 9.

Authorities suspect that William Ahrold shot his son before he killed himself.

Someone discovered the van before authorities arrived and stole Ahrold’s gun and other belongings, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, two people drove to Ahrold’s home in Denver and were reportedly seen peering through the windows, before neighbors called police.

The two fled the area before police arrived, but left their vehicle behind. Police have the vehicle in their custody.
