COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A woman accused in the dragging death of a Colorado Springs tow truck driver could face double the penalties if she is convicted.

The Gazette reports ( ) a judge ruled Wednesday that jurors in the trial of Detra Farries will be asked to consider whether Allen Lew Rose died a “torturous, cruel and painful death.” That would open the door to stiffer penalties if jurors answer “yes” and Farries is convicted.

Farries faces multiple charges including leaving the scene of a fatal accident, manslaughter and vehicular homicide. She is accused of driving away as Rose tried to tow her vehicle in February. Police say Rose was dragged when his legs got caught in a tow cable attached to Farries’ vehicle.

Farries’ relatives say she didn’t realize Rose was being dragged.
