A car theft in Golden on Tuesday night was foiled by the suspect’s own limited driving abilities: He discovered that his target — an Audi — was a stick shift.
Instead, the thwarted thief was forced to make his getaway on foot.
A woman told the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department that she was exiting the Conoco store at 5899 S. Alkire St. at about 10:10 p.m. when a man with a gun took her purse and keys.
He jumped into her sedan and cranked the engine but couldn’t get the manual transmission in gear, the Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.
The suspect, who got away with the woman’s zebra-striped purse, is described as white, clean-shaven, with blue eyes, age 22 to 25 and about 6 feet tall. Also, he was wearing a gray hoodie.
Anyone with information can call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department at 303-271-5612.
