A Larimer County inmate was charged today for allegedly punching a Larimer County Jail deputy in the face on Dec. 19, authorities say.
Devin Wayne Thomas, 26, was charged with second-degree assault. He has previously been charged with two other assaults on jail deputies, one in October and the other in March 2009.
The deputy in the recent attack, who was not named, sustained a minor injury.
The Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the deputy was attacked while handing out laundry in the high security area. He was punched after ordering Thomas to return to his cell.
The sheriff’s office says this was the second incident in a month in the high-security area of the jail, including a Nov. 20 “riot” by four inmates who were later charged in that incident.
