City planners hope to nab $500,000 in grant funds from Great Outdoors Colorado for a $3.1-million, 65-acre district park along the St. Vrain Greenway between Main and Martin streets south of the D-Barn.

Planned amenities include a white-water course with five drops, a fishing pond, pond observation deck, river overlooks and habitat improvements along the greenway on the Pavlakis Open Space property.

Longmont Parks and Open Space project manger Paula Fitzgerald said Thursday that city officials are looking for additional financing for the project — however small or even in-kind — that can shore up the grant application by showing community interest in the project.

“It doesn’t have to be large amounts of money,” Fitzgerald said.
