The disgraced ex-bookkeeper for a northwest metro youth-wrestling league was sentenced Tuesday to 30 months probation and 30 days in jail for stealing more than $11,000 from the group over a three year period.
Angela Padia, 31, of Arvada, was the parent in charge of funds for the Pomona Youth Wrestling Club from the winter of 2007 through February of 2010. She pled guilty to a class five felony for attempted theft November 3.
Prior to her Jan. 3 sentencing, Padia repaid the $11,983 she embezzled.
“We are pleased with the sentence. Even though the money was repaid, there needed to be a punitive sanction,” said Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey in a press release Wednesday.
“I hope that this helps remind coordinators of youth sports organizations to be vigilant in the oversight of their financial transactions.”
The press release said Padia was the sole signer on a bank account that she opened in the name of Pomona Youth Wrestling.
The theft came to the other parents’ attention in November 2010 after bills for uniforms and equipment went unpaid.
