BOULDER, Colo.—Starting Friday night, city parks in Boulder will be off limits to campers and loiterers.

The Daily Camera reports ( ) City Manager Jane Brautigam signed a new rule Thursday to close city-owned parks from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. People in the parks during those hours could be ticketed for trespassing, which is punishable with fines and jail time. The rule doesn’t apply to people “moving through” parks.

The rule also says property left in parks overnight will be considered abandoned and could be removed by the city.

The City Council this week supported having Brautigam enact the rule in response to health and safety concerns stemming from an Occupy Boulder encampment outside the municipal building.
