GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—Garfield County commissioners have voted unanimously to fire County Manager Ed Green, ending his nearly 14 years of service with the county.
Green told the Post Independent ( ) he had no warning of the commissioners’ action before they voted Tuesday.
Green’s contract was renewed in November, at an annual salary of more than $133,000.
County Commissioner Tom Jankovsky says the dismissal is in line with commissioners’ ongoing assessment of the county’s organizational structure. County Commissioner John Martin says commissioners want to be more involved in the decisions of the county.
Green has been placed on paid leave for 30 days, in accordance with his contract, though the dismissal is effective immediately. In addition, he is due to receive six months’ severance pay, plus health insurance coverage for that period.
