In an attempt to dodge police this afternoon, a man broke at least one of his legs when he jumped off a second-story ledge in a parking garage in downtown Denver.

Shortly after noon, officers spotted the suspect near the corner of Colfax Avenue and Broadway, said Sonny Jackson, spokesman for the Denver Police Department.

Officers saw the man partake in a suspected drug deal. When police approached the suspect, he physically assaulted one of the officers and then ran away.

Additional officers were called in for backup and followed the man into a parking garage at 16th Avenue and Broadway, Jackson said.

Police followed the man to the second floor in the garage, where he jumped off a ledge.

The suspect broke at least one of his legs in the fall and was taken to Denver Health Medical Center.

The officer had minor injuries.
