GREELEY, Colo.—Leprino Foods says it wants to be a good neighbor, so it will spend a few hundred thousand dollars to try to muffle a noise that Greeley residents say is coming from its plant.

Greeley’s community development director, Becky Safarik, says the city began receiving calls about the noise in mid-December.

The Greeley Tribune reports () engineers have identified the source of the mechanical humming as a large machine that’s used to dry whey. Leprino plans to build a perforated plate that will go beneath the roof of the large dryer to absorb the sound.

It could take several weeks to finish.
