A Nebraska woman was declared dead Friday after her car plunged into a pond in Greenwood Village.

About 7:15 a.m., firefighters pulled the victim, who was unresponsive, from a car in a pond at 5889 Greenwood Plaza Boulevard, according to the Greenwood Village Police Department.

She was taken to Littleton Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police identified the victim as Jean L. Madsen, 69, of Trenton, Neb.

Madsen was in Colorado visiting her son, who lives in Highlands Ranch, according to a police media release.

She was last seen at 4 p.m. Thursday at an appointment, police said.

When she didn’t return, her son contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, but an official missing-persons report was not filed.

A passer-by spotted the top of Mad sen’s Toyota Prius in the pond Friday morning and called 911.

It was not known how long the car had been in the pond.

The accident remained under investigation, police said.
