A toddler died Sunday after being struck by a piece of construction equipment driven by his father.
The fatal accident happened late Sunday afternoon outside of Rangely, according to a Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office media release.
The 17-month-old boy had wandered out of a horse pen, where he was with his mother and an older sister, and walked into the path of a Bobcat, or skid steer, driven by his father. The victim was run over as the compact front-end loader was backing up.
The boy was taken to a local hospital with massive head injuries and was pronounced dead. An investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
