A driver in Colorado Springs this morning sped away from police, hitting a curb, sending the vehicle airborne and crashing into a creek.

The incident happened at about 12:15 a.m. and the driver got out of the vehicle and took off on foot, leaving three passengers behind, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

An officer using a radar gun was monitoring traffic on South Union Boulevard when a vehicle passed at a high speed, police said. The officer pursued the vehicle, which got on I-25 northbound and exited at South Nevada Avenue.

The driver tried to turn southbound on Nevada, but hit a curb, sending the vehicle airborne and crashing into a creek. The driver fled on foot, police said.

Three passengers in the vehicle were taken to a local hospital, two with serious injuries, police said. None of the injuries are life threatening.

Police said they found the driver a short time later hiding under a nearby bridge. He was identified as 18-year-old Anthony Medina.

Medina was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, DUI and felony eluding.
