State Senate President Brandon Shaffer on Thursday nixed a run in a more Democratic friendly congressional district, saying he will stay a candidate in the district where he and his family live.
The Longmont Democrat said he knows the 4th Congressional District best and will continue his quest to try to knock off U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma.
Democrats has asked Shaffer to consider a run in the new 6th District, where U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Aurora, now has an equal number of Republicans, unaffiliated voters and Democrats.
Two Democrats already have announced for the 6th: state Rep. Joe Miklosi of Denver, and Greenwood Village physician Perry Haney.
