Ten of the Nation’s largest trucking companies will come together to pre-hire more than 200 new driver trainees at US Truck Driving School in Denver, on Monday, Feb. 20. This will be one of the largest recruitment events ever held at one of the US Truck Driving school facilities.

Despite unemployment that hovers around 9 percent, there is an acute shortage of professionally trained truck drivers in the United States. According to Bob Costello, chief economist for the American Truck Association, “We are estimating that the trucking industry will need to hire and train more than 113,000 in the next few years.”

JBS Transports, Swift Transportation, Werner Enterprises, CR England, Schneider National Carriers, Navajo, Trans Am, AW Water and DG Coleman will all be pre-hiring new driver trainees. US Truck Driving School is located at 8150 West 48th Ave., Wheat Ridge, 80033. The event will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and there is no prior experience needed. US Truck is Colorado’s largest truck driver training school, and will be available to discuss CDL Training for the participating Carriers.

According to the Department of Labor, the demand for professional truck drivers will continue to grow far into the 21st century. “Two factors are contributing to the increased demand for new truck drivers,” said CVTA (Commercial Vehicle Training Association) Board Member, Brad Barber. “First of all, as the economy picks up, there is more freight being moved on a daily basis. Then, we’ve got a lot of drivers who are reaching retirement age in the next few years. When you combine those two factors, you’ve got demand like we’ve never seen.”

Today’s professional truck drivers begin their careers earning more than $37,000 per year. And a driver with two years or more experience can easily earn $50,000+. “Trucking today is a much better career than just 10 years ago. The equipment is more comfortable, the routes are better and the wages have increased by almost 30 percent,” said Homer Paul of US Xpress.
