GOLDEN —Pueblo Central had no answer for the Scott brothers of Lewis-Palmer on Friday night.
The Scott brothers of Josh and Jordan combined for 45 points to help the No. 1 Lewis-Palmer Rangers defeat the No. 2 Pueblo Central Wildcats 72-48 in the Ron Shavlik Regional final.
“We are playing like a really good team,” said Josh Scott, whose team’s 24-point win was their closest margin of victory so far in the state tournament.
The senior Josh had a game-high 29 points while junior Jordan Scott had 16 points in front of a packed Lockridge Arena at Colorado School of Mines. The brothers scored all of the Rangers’ points in the first (18) and third quarters (14).
“They are difference-makers,” said Pueblo Central coach Brad Ranson. “Their height, their athleticism, their basketball knowledge, they’re too tough for us.”
Ranson said he was impressed with Jordan’s game.
“I thought he (Jordan) took control and made things go for them,” Ranson said of the younger Scott. “He did a great job.”
Jordan said he wanted to play his best basketball in the state tournament and so far he is doing it with his. He had 20 points and 14 points, respectively, last weekend versus Greeley Central and Thompson Valley.
“I was just trying to play hard, play consistent, stay aggressive and make sure we get wins,” Jordan Scott said.
Lewis-Palmer’s trip to Boulder on Thursday for the state semifinals against Valor Christian (32-2) will be nothing new for the Rangers (25-1).
“This is my third Final Four at Lewis-Palmer, along with Jordan’s, and fourth for coach (Russ) McKinstry,” Josh Scott said. “I think we are all ready to get over the hump.”
Pueblo Central finishes the season at 18-8. Senior Kevin Trujillo led the Wildcats in scoring with 19 points.
