Firefighters have contained a 650-acre grass fire that was reported at about noon near Wellington today.
No one was hurt in the fire near County Road 9 and Vesta Lane, on private lands 5 miles north of Wellington. However, flames came within feet of one family’s farm. Read about that family’s brush with the wildfire at .
The fire was about 90 percent contained and crews were beginning mop up operations at about 4 p.m., said John Schulz, a spokesman for the Larimer County Sheriffs Office.
An investigation of the fire’s cause has begun as well, said Schulz. “It appears to be human caused.”
About 63 homes in the area were called and residents were told to be ready to evacuate “themselves and their animals,” if needed, Schulz said. Evacuation was unnecessary.
One structure — a shed — was damaged in the fire.
