A 30-year-old man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for a series of break-ins on the Auraria Campus last summer.

Cassidy Vandermeulen, 30, pleaded guilty to several counts of burglary, theft and possession of a controlled substance, according to a news release from the Denver District Attorney’s office.

He was immediately sentenced after he entered his plea. Vandermeulen’s sentence will be reconsidered on July 2, to determine if he will serve his 10-year sentence in Community Corrections.

Vandermeulen broke into a campus office in July and stole several items including a master key. He then used the key to enter campus buildings and offices.

He stole several items including computer laptops, textbooks and other electronics before he was arrested on Sept. 24.

Vandermeulen was also ordered to pay $40,332 in restitution.
