The continues its evolution into a significant developer of American plays with two new titles set to appear on its stages next season.

The 2012/13 lineup, announced earlier this week, is balanced out by such crowd-pleasing titles as “The Three Musketeers,” adapted from Alexandre Dumas’ work, Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet,” and “Fences,” the new classic by August Wilson.

Other plays on the list include “When We Are Married,” by J.B. Priestley, about three couples in an English town who learn, after 25 years together, that they are not legally married; “A Weekend With Pablo Picasso,” by Herbert Siguenza of Los Angeles’ Culture Clash, drawn from the artist’s writings; and “The Giver,” based on Lois Lowry’s children’s novel about a young man’s reckoning with his utopian world.

The high-profile, and title ending the announced season is Jon Robin Baitz’ “Other Desert Cities,” a family drama about a young writer who returns home to her Palm Springs family with a troubling, soon-to-be-published manuscript.

The new plays, both read as part of DCTC’s recent New Play Summit, are “Ed, Downloaded,” by Michael Mitnick, about a dying man given a chance to select his 10 favorite memories; and “Grace, or The Art of Climbing,” Lauren Feldman’s story about the ups and downs of a female rock climber.

One more title will be added later.
