TRINIDAD, Colo.—The board of the Trinidaddio Blues Fest says this year’s festival in Trinidad will be cancelled.
Board Chairman Jerry Campbell tells The Chronicle-News the 2012 event is being scrapped because the economy is still struggling, and Trinidad is in “political turmoil” as the City Council considers firing the city manager. Festival organizers have said City Manager Ed Gil de Rubio has made significant contributions to promoting the festival.
Campbell says the festival board deemed the financial risks to be too great to proceed with the event as planned in August.
The Blues Fest has attracted as many as 5,000 people in the past, but it drew only about 3,400 people last year. The board believes the economy played a large part in the attendance.
