A suspect dubbed the “crapper scrapper” has been arrested for allegedly stealing brass and copper plumbing pipes and hardware from various businesses.
Since January 5, there have been 18 commercial burglaries in the west metro area where the burglar targeted toilets, according to a Jefferson County Sheriffs’ Office media release.
In one incident the burglar hit an office tower, going from floor to floor turning off the water supply and stripping the bathrooms’ plumbing.
The sheriff’s office said the burglar would stuff the stolen materials into a back pack and leave. The burglar also hit a Taco Bell, a King Soopers, a theater, a university and a hospital.
The value of the stolen materials and damages at various locations range from $300 to $1,000. The total value in the 18 known cases is about $6,390, the sheriff’s office said.
