On Tuesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection will unveil an automated kiosk at Denver International Airport that will speed security clearance for passengers arriving in the country.
Called Global Entry, the program is offered to low-risk international travelers who have undergone pre-approval. The agency said applicants undergo a rigorous background check and interview before they are enrolled.
At airports, program participants proceed to a Global Entry kiosks, present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, place their fingertips on the scanner for verification and make a customs declaration.
The kiosk then issues the traveler a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to baggage claim and the exit.
Global Entry, which the agency says reduces average times by more than 70 percent, has been available in 20 airports. Four more airports, including DIA, are being added to the program.
