DENVER—A lack of snow in the mountains means fewer skiers and snowboarders are hitting the slopes in Colorado this season.
The Denver Post ( ) reports Colorado Ski Country’s 22 member resorts saw a 7.4 percent decrease in visitation through February compared to last season. And the drought of December and January is expected to push the season’s visits to all 26 Colorado ski areas well below last year’s 12 million mark.
Melanie Mills, president of Colorado Ski Country, a trade group, says it’s been a challenging year, but she notes “we’re comparing this year to last year, when many resorts saw record-setting snow.”
Meanwhile, Aspen Skiing Co., which operates four resorts in the Roaring Fork Valley, has seen visitation climb 2.1 percent through February, compared with the same period last season, bucking the downward trend.
