A Colorado Springs Rent-A-Center employee was working inside of a box truck behind the store at 3827 E. Pikes Peak Ave. Tuesday night, but a truck thief paid no attention.
The employee heard the truck engine crank up then the vehicle pulled away. He escaped out the back unharmed, police said today.
Police are still looking for the stolen 2009 Chevrolet Express 3500 box truck with Rent A Center decals on both sides and Colorado license plates with the number 785-UCB.
When the truck sped away north on Ruskin Drive just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, it was loaded with store merchandise, including a television, washing machine and couch, Colorado Springs police said.
The thief, a man, was described as white or Asian between 18 and 22 years old.
