SILT, Colo.—Coroner’s officials say a woman killed by a fast-moving train in Garfield County was wearing earbuds and may have been listening to music as she walked alone down the tracks.

Ashley Nicole Vale died instantly Saturday after being struck by an Amtrak train going 70 mph.

Deputy Garfield County Coroner Lanny Grant tells the Post Independent ( ) that Amtrak engineers say they blared a horn and hit the emergency brakes after spotting her on the track, but the 27-year-old never turned around.

Grant says there is no indication yet that Vale was emotionally distraught.
