Denver police announced tonight that Anthony Joseph Escobedo, 31, has been arrested and faces first-degree murder charges in a shooting at Colfax Avenue and Pearl Street early Sunday.
Billy Newson, 29, died from a gunshot wound to the head after the incident just before 3 a.m.
Police did not release a booking photo of Escobedo, citing and ongoing investigation.
Court records show that in August 2009 Escobedo pleaded guilty in Denver District Court to assault/drugging victim, after he was originally charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to four years of supervised probation and given credit for 55 days of time served.
