Interstate 25 between Interstate 70 and Speer Boulevard will not be closed tonight, Colorado Department of Transportation officials said, because demolition of the 15th Street bridge was completed overnight Saturday.

CDOT reports that a girder over westbound 15th Street was damaged during the demolition process and those lanes on 15th Street will remain closed indefinitely. Eastbound 15th Street lanes will remain open.

Lane closures are possible on I-25 from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. as crews work to open westbound 15th Street over the interstate.

The bridge demolition is part of an $11.7 million project that replaces the 15th Street bridge and adds auxiliary lanes on southbound I-25 from south of 20th Street to south of Speer Boulevard.

The project is expected to continue through late 2013 or early 2014.
