DENVER—Authorities say an active-duty Army sergeant and a recently discharged officer from a Colorado infantry post have been arrested in Texas on charges of planning a murder for hire and drug trafficking.
A federal indictment released Monday says a third suspect was shot and killed by a federal agent during the arrests Saturday in Laredo, Texas.
Fort Carson confirms that one of the suspects, 29-year-old Kevin Corley, was a first lieutenant at the post until his discharge this month. Fort Carson says another suspect, 28-year-old Samuel Walker, is an active-duty sergeant assigned to the post.
They face charges of possessing a firearm for a crime of violence and a drug crime, and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
Authorities say the suspect who was fatally shot was Jerome Corley, Kevin Corely’s cousin.
