ASPEN, Colo.—The U.S. Forest Service and Aspen authorities are denying blame for removing five shrines set up on Aspen mountains.
The impromptu shrines were devoted to drummers, Burning Man, golf, Jimi Hendrix and Michael Jackson.
According to the Aspen Daily News ( ), more than 40 shrines have been set up in groves of trees on the local ski hills. Most of them are on Aspen Mountain and include log benches, knick-knacks and photographs honoring their subjects.
The shrines are technically illegal, but authorities have declined to remove them.
