COLORADO SPRINGS – — Wal-Mart has started remodeling a former King Soopers store at Platte Avenue and Murray Boulevard on Colorado Springs’ east side that will become the retail giant’s first Neighborhood Market grocery in the Pikes Peak region.
The old King Soopers, which has been closed since 2006, will reopen as a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market by this fall, slightly later than the original summer timetable, Wal-Mart representatives said Thursday.
A second Wal-Mart neighborhood grocery will be built from the ground up near South Academy Boulevard and Chelton Road on the Springs’ south side; that store now is scheduled for an early 2013 opening.
