The Aurora City Council turned to a familiar face to replace former Councilman Bob FitzGerald, who left recently to take a job in the city attorney’s office.

The council on Monday night selected former Councilman Brad Pierce to fill FitzGerald’s seat.

Pierce ran unsuccessfully for re-election in November but wasn’t out for long.

The council approved Pierce by a 6-3 vote. He will serve the remaining 1½ years of FitzGerald’s term. The council had whittled the finalists list to six.

Pierce beat out a handful of candidates, including former Councilwoman Deborah Wallace and restaurant owner Alfonso Nunez.
