A man found dead on South Academy Boulevard near the Chelton Road intersection Tuesday morning may have been crossing the busy street to reach a bus stop when he was hit and killed by a vehicle, according to Colorado Springs Police.
The man, who was wearing dark clothes on a foggy morning, was not crossing at an intersection and the driver of the vehicle that hit him might not have seen him before the crash, said Lt. Brian Ritz of the Colorado Springs Police. Police did not have information available about the possible vehicle that struck the man and are asking that anyone with information about the crash call 719-444-7000.
The man’s body was spotted by a driver in the area just after 6:15 a.m., lying next to the median near the area. Academy Boulevard was temporarily blocked while police investigated, but has since re-opened.
Ritz said the man was an “older man” and was wearing “dark clothes” but did not have any additional information. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy to determine exactly how he died.
