DENVER—Denver’s new police chief has streamlined the department’s discipline process for officers, replacing a complicated system with a single commander.
Wednesday’s announcement was the latest step in Chief Robert White’s reorganization of the department since taking over in December.
The Denver Post reports ( ) that White expects the new process to cut in half the time it takes to review a case.
It took 60 to 90 days for multiple commanders to review cases under the old system.
Under the new one, a conduct review officer will review the findings of an internal affairs investigation and make a recommendation to White. White will then make a recommendation to the city’s safety manager.
If the officer under investigation disagrees with the recommendation, a hearing would be held.
